Dragon Tournament: First Rounds
Sun Oct 15, 2023 12:25 pm
Fifteenth Day, Tenth Moon,
Twenty-Fourth Year of Recent Awakenings
In accordance with the will of Her Majesty and in upholding the duties charged to me as Court Chronicler, I hereby submit the account of Dragon Tournament: First Rounds.
Crowds flocked to the Duchess of Rumiss, eager to see the first live-bladed tourney hosted in quite a while. His Grace, Duke Lucus greeted the entrants and guests alike as they descended into the sands of the coliseum. While all originally went down together, they did not stay so. Those less inclined to the upcoming brutal sport parted to the north and secured themselves seats in the sands while the brave fighters went through the gates and entered the sands.
Their Graces had prepared a variety of healers who would also be multitasking as the announcers of the event. Huskarl and Ambassador Tamiko, Karls Baenor, and Renna stood ready as they greeted everyone. Ambassador Tamiko stepped forward and roused the excitement in the crowd, "Tonight we will watch competitors from all the Outer, Inner, AND The Conclave fight to show their might! Who will claim victory? Who will claim honor! Tonight in these sands, we will see who can bring the trophy home!"
The skald Baenor then stepped forward to explain the rules, “Combat is to be fought to first blood only. Combatants will be randomly chosen to face each other. Combatants will be called forth, battle with begin, and once concluded the wounded shall be moved to the west antechamber to be treated while we continue with the next two gladiators. Combatants are allowed to use any weapons, armor, or other equipment that they bring to the sands in their engagements. No equipment or articles of combat shall be provided."
He then read out the names of those participating, which included eleven different denizens. Cordon, Trenna, Adayne, Kallistya, Westley, Nexian, Mizuki, Venture, Aratan, Kobe and Jacquette. All stepped forward as brave and equal fighters on the sand. Those watching, including Princess Maeven, began cheering once more as the first fight was called. Tamiko once more raised her voice, "We have our first competitors! One is Red-headed and One is Blonde! It's the Beauties of the Prince's Households: Master Aratan and Westley!"
"Good luck or ill, as they will soon be deprived of the treat of beholding us both.", proclaimed as he stepped forward. This was a battle of rapiers and daggers. Each combatant fought fiercely but Master Aratan was able to secure himself a win against ser Westley. Master Aratan used his rapier and caught ser Westley with a slight wound on the knee, which according to ser Westley, he was excessively glad was not his face. However, it was with some sadness that Huskarl Cordon informed those present that it was harder to show off a knee scar to a pretty sera.
The next battle was called by Tamiko again. This time the combatants would be ser Venture against Karl Jacqutte. Princess Maeveen called out support for Karl Jacquette, using the endearing nickname of ‘Jacket’. Ser Venture and Jacquette bantered for a bit before eventually settling into the fight. While Venture started the fight using a rapier and shield, an unusual combination, he eventually divested himself of the shield before tossing it into the sands. Jacquette fought with an axe, bearing strong blows upon the ser. The blows however were not strong enough and eventually ser Venture’s rapier landed true. Karl Jacquette obtained the dippest wound of the night and was quickly escorted out by Tamiko, Cordon, and Adayne to be tended to in a more sterile area.
Karls Baenor and Renna, who had been assisting in healing the smaller wounds, then took over the announcing while Tamiko tended to the more seriously wounded. The next find was called with much eagerness and anticipation as it would be between two of the duchy. Huskarl Trenna was to go against the ‘huntress’ Adayne. The two stepped forward and greeted each other with affection. Adayne wielded two sabres and Trenna settled into her preferred rapier and dagger combination. Some teasing banter passed between the two and Huskarl Cordon but the match started quickly. This was a fierce battle, both trading blows back and forth. This math went on longer than the previous two, both displaying quick feet and smart strategy. Eventually, Adayne was declared the winner, striking a slice against Trenna’s leg. Cordon spoke to the agreement of many, "Best fight we'll see tonight, likely. It was beautiful."
The next fight had many in anticipation, as it was called that it would be against ser Kobe and sera Mizuki. The sera, who had endeared herself to many with her ability and helpfulness over the festival, had many from both the castle and the conclave cheering for her. This match was somewhat quicker than the ones previously. Mizuki dashed out, landing a series of devastating blows that ser Kobe could not recover from. Mizuki inflicted a slight wound to ser Kobe’s elbow as Princess Maeveen, Mistresses Filusae, and Taite, and this chronicler threw glitter from the sands.
The next battle was to be one of the most fierce we had seen thus far. The skald Baenor announced the next combatants to be Master Nexian and Huskarl Cordon. Both chose to use bigger weapons, hoping for heft and power in their swings. Master Nexian struck quickly and fiercely but Huskarl Cordon was quick to defend and struck back just as firmly. Despite the size of their weapons both of the combatants were able to dance with each other for quite a while. After many trading blows Master Nexian caught Huskarl Cordon in the stomach to the vocal surprise of many, including the Master himself. Cordon took the blow with dignity, however, complimenting Master Nexian before being escorted from the area and brought to Tamiko for further treatment.
This concluded the first round of fighting, with sera Kallistya being pushed into the second round due to a lack of even competitors. The Skald Baenor stepped forward, "With the final bout of the Tournament of the Dragon, Nexian has proved victorious with a victory over Cordon. Thus, we will take a brief intermission and resume the second round."
This story will be continued in a chronicle focusing on the final rounds. Those present for this event included Princess Maeveen, Duke Lucus, Huskarls Cordon, Trenna and Tamiko, Karls Jacquette, Baenor, Adayne and Renna, Luitenant Darvius, Masters Ammanas, Nexian and Aratan, Mistresses Auriela, Taite and Filusae, seras Arlenia, Flora, Kallistya, Mizuki and Khalea and sers Izrith, Kobe, Venture and Westley and this chronicler
