Opening of the Dragon Festival
Thu Jul 04, 2024 8:17 am
Fourth Day, Seventh Moon,
Twenty-Fifth Year of Recent Awakenings
In accordance with the will of Her Majesty and in upholding the duties charged to me as Court Chronicler, I hereby submit the account of Opening of the Dragon Festival.
On the first day of the seventh moon, a large crowd had gathered at the center bridge. Denizens from all baileys waited eagerly for the start of the new festival and did not need to wait long. Nearly as soon as the sixth bell rang out, a shimmering orange portal appeared at the bridge's center. D
Duke Lucus stepped from the portal and greeted the crowd with excited murmuring and plotting. He turned his gaze over those gathered, letting them calm for a moment. He began his speech quite composedly, "This evening marks the beginning of our second annual Dragonfest celebrations. Hosted by the Grand Duchy of Rumiss in celebration of newfound peace between our peoples, this year's festival welcomes you all to our home for a moon of comradery, battle, and festivity in honor of us both."
He went on to explain, as many were joining the festival for the first time, that the event was much akin to Yuletide. The task were going to be put out for everyone to earn festival coins, which could then be spent in Karl Hvitserk's trade tent. He also explained that 'Megan' the Kraken would be out for people to battle and challenge themselves against. He shared that cave goblins were running around the caves, having made off with Karl Hvitserk's good, and that people would be rewarded for returning the fortunes or welcome to keep it themselves.
Much to the excitement of many in the crowd he also expressed that treasure maps would be returning. This perked the interest of most present, with hushed comments about what joy people found hunting down the goodies held within. Ser Kobe and sera Milani began a friendly competition of who might collect the most while ser Cordon explained to everyone that 'those are the good ones.'
Duke Lucus did note two distinct changes from last year's festival. The first is that instead of being two weeks long, this year's festival would instead last the whole moon. He then explained that this year Karl Hvitserk would only credit the champions for defeating the Kraken, Megan, after they had obtained a contract from Karl Magnhildr. This means while people could join in battles with the Kraken as much as they pleased, only one battle a day would count for their efforts with the Karl. As one can only accept three contracts at a time, those who were intent on fighting the Kraken would need to be mindful of which task they were taking each day. He went further in-depth about the treasure, "The golden treasure chest, protected by the Kraken, can be plundered from without requiring the contract, so you may still return for some rewards. Be advised, however, that the chest is enchanted to only allow one to plunder it if they were present when the Kraken was defeated, whether or not they fought it."
With that, his Grace invited everyone through the portal and welcomed them into a small sliver of his home. People lingered for a few moments before a few groups formed and rushed off in excitement. One of these groups bolted almost immediately to the Kraken, Megan.
The first battle involved three sorcerers, Mistress Filusae, ser Radulescu, and Huskarl Beanor along with the martials Commander Nexian and Huskarls Trenna and Cordon. Trenna deftly employed her scimitar while Commander Nexian danced with the beast. Mistress Filusae let all bask in her powerful glory and Cordon struck the final blow. Ser Radulescu nearly lept in his excitement, fist-pumping into the air as the creature was felled. And thus began the start of the Dragon Festival.
Those present for this event included Duke Lucus, Commander Nexian, Huskarls Cordon, Trenna and Baenor, karls Renna, Taeqin and Ygritte, Mistress Filusae, sers Venture, Melle and Radulescu and seras Oydela, Milani Elaynie and this chronicler.
