~Winners of the Bad Poetry Competition of 21YRA~
Sun Oct 11, 2020 4:58 pm
Writ this Sun's, Eleventh of the Tenth Moon, 21YRA
To all pitiable poets, bad bards, lamentable lyricists and celebrators thereof,
The time has come to reveal, and revel in, the best worst verse the Castle has to offer this, the Twenty-first Year of Recent Awakenings. It is with great pleasure that I announce the winner of the Bad Poetry Competition of 21YRA is sera Susan.
Sera Susan's entry 'This Poem is a Secret' featured some maddening repetition and the closing line "Shhh", a line which delights me for how utterly anti-climactic it would feel when performed. I must also commend the sera for her other two entries which were thoroughly enjoyable to read. 'My Dark Tormented Soul' was particularly good--unfortunately much too good for the purposes of this competition.
Lord Dolph takes the second place trophy*. 'Fantastic Voyages' was truly awful. Not much more to say.
The runner-up prize goes to sera Nekane for her untitled submission. Though the structure was quite clever, this reader appreciated its thin veil of hostility and utter lack of context.
This year was quite difficult to judge. There were lots of poems about cold, a topic that is very difficult to make original after 20 years, although many other entries were that delicious opposite: too creative. Surprisingly, there were a couple of poems on the topic of Justice, which may have been inspired by current events at the time. The poems will all be immortalised in a book for the Royal Library, so you can look forward to that.
Congratulations to all of the winners, your prizes will be with the courier shortly.
By my hand,
Brook Toustain
* Note: there is no trophy.

Mistress Brook, would it be possible to pin the winning entries here, so we can all enjoy them?

It would be possible! I still encourage all of you to go and seek out the complete anthology of submissions. There are some wonderful poems in there.
Without further ado, here is sera Susan's prize-winning poem:
This Poem is a Secret
----------------------
Inside my mind
There is a secret.
I cannot tell you
Because it is secret.
I have memories
And they are also secret.
I have dreams
And they are secret too.
Secrets are interesting
And also mysterious.
Shh.
Lord Dolph's:
Fantastic Voyages,
A ''poem'' by Lord Dolph Li'Astri
What makes a voyage fantastic?
Is it where you go?
What you know?
In the snow?
Who you show?
Or can it be erratic?
I think it can be all of those
Travel far and often, in your mind or on your feet
Hope this poem was so sweet.
Now I am going to go to eat.
And sera Nekane's:
Ought I enter a plea?
Rather, should I protest?
Under duress I write this
Dreadful, bland trash.
Even so, count my vote as anti,
Whether or not it may count.
Onerous it will be to write via
Rhymeless, puerile design;
Drivel made only to begin and end
In the letters of a sour bard.
No need for an alibi;
Gentle words are all I'll use.
