Yarrnival: A Pirate Persona
Sat Jun 19, 2021 10:27 am
Written on behalf of Her Majesty's Chatelaine, Lady Sinvy
To the intrigued,
Yarrnival is a Castle Wide Play wherein the denizens take part in an interactive story and roleplay members of a crew of Sky Pirates. Swashbuckling mercenaries, merchants, and thieves from the Clouds. To this end, at the opening feast, each denizen will be given a chance to pull a pirate name out of a jug. This name will be your character's name throughout Yarrnival during the bells in which those participating are 'in character'.
Now, a good character in any story has a history to them, motivations, and a persona. As such, one of the competitions during Yarrnival is to write up a pirate persona that you will take on once Yarrnival officially begins. You don't have to turn in your persona until the night of the feast. If you are unable to attend the feast or wish to turn in your persona when it is finished you may send them to sera Kaira. It can be as simple or elaborate as you like. It can be in a couple of paragraphs, like a brief description or in a dossier format or a wanted poster. The key is to have fun.
For those needing a little more, here is the very loose background tale for Yarrnival, but don't pick a crew yet, as those will be issued at the feast as well to ensure a roughly even distribution between the teams.

The Sky Pirates: A very brief and focused summary
High above the known world is a sprawling, thriving realm known as the Celestial Gates. Among the clouds, nestled within the firmament are thousands of glittering cities with as many ports as there are stars. The Sky is the limit among the bold and vibrant hues of the day and night. Once ruled over by unknowable beings of the stars, these jewels of the sky fell to the people who had once served them, over time these people began to govern themselves; a federation of merciless raiders, shady merchants, purveyors of exquisite goods overseen by Kings and Queens with Courts consisting of the most prestigious pirates to raid the sky.
Our tale takes place in a particularly lawless Skyport called the Starsea Citadel, ruled over by the notorious Pirate Queen, Vaseana Valmarana.
Vaseana took power years ago, wrenching it from the clutches of a wicked Shadow Lord. Building up a Court of skilled merchants, thieves, and spies, the Starsea Citadel shone the brightest within the Celestial Gates. However, cities among the Sky are swept away as quickly as they form. In the tumultuous world of the Clouds, life, wealth and love are fleeting and only the strong survive. Among the Court of the Pirate Queen rose a man of exceptional talent, charm and ambition. He sought to become King of the Citadel, by guile or force.
A civil war broke out among the port city, cunning men and women exchanged sharp blows and even sharper words, all fighting for the throne, either for their chosen liege or themselves. The scores of battles eventually coalesced into a grand finale, but in a twist of unforeseen events both the Pirate Queen's and the rival Captain's ships tumbled from the Sky to the Land, crashing into a mountain of ice. The survivors now scour the mountainside, finding themselves in a Castle full of castaways from other crews. They now muster new crews and fight for the Citadel's coveted Nimbus throne in a foreign land of ancient magics. No quarter shall be given and the only rule is to win!

Pirate Participants!
In order to better aid those working on their pirate personas, Dreaded Pirate Queen Valmarana has left the pirate jug in the Center of the Grand Bridge for all to enjoy.
Please note that you may only use the jug once. Those seeking a male name must grab from the top and those seeking a female name may tap the jug to receive their name.
All the best luck on a proper pirate name and remember to send your personas into sera Kaira as you have until the night of the welcome feast to complete them.

Reminder:
This is the last day to submit your pirate persona! Please send any persona you want to be submitted to the competition to Kaira before the seventh late bell or you'll be considered a land-loving lollygagger. Any submission after the seventh late bell will be deemed incapable of plundering and not accepted.
Also - please remember that you are welcome to use your Pirate Persona for the Royal Library's Writing Competition, the rules of which can be found here.
